Whitening Toothpastes
While there are many different whitening toothpastes on the market, the truth is that they do not whiten teeth. Whitening toothpastes help to scrub away stains before they penetrate your enamel and discolor your enamel. Any sort of whitening rinse does not whiten teeth either. All these products do are remove surface stains to prevent small discolorations on your existing teeth. Any sort of toothpaste with Baking Soda as an abrasive will remove most superficial stains. Patients that have porcelain veneers, Porcelain crowns or composite fillings are reminded NOT to utilize Baking Soda toothpastes as these may scratch your restorations. Tooth pastes such as Crest Sensitivity, Colgate Sensitivity and Sensodyne are recommended for these patients. They have extremely mild abrasives and will not harm your restorations. Another type of toothpaste dentifrice that we recommend here at Ritter and Ramsey General and Cosmetic Dentistry is Clinpro 5000 from 3M ESPE. This toothpaste has the largest amount of Fl available to prevent recurrent cavities from returning to your dentition. Come on for your cleaning and exam to find out more about toothpaste choices for your mouth.

Effective Tooth Whitening at Ritter and Ramsey Cosmetic Dentistry
Here at Ritter and Ramsey General and Cosmetic Dentistry the easiest most effective way to change your smile is to Whiten your teeth. in the past, this technique was called bleaching. This inferred the use of harmful chemicals that would permanently effect your enamel or outer layer of your tooth. This is so not the case. Whitening has been proven safe and effective from clinical studies over the last decade. The best, most cost effective method of whitening your teeth are custom trays to fit over your teeth with take home syringes of material. The material that we use and has been shown to promote awesome results is Night White from Discus Dental. Tooth whitening works well if you have to prerequisites, first, you have to have your own teeth. unfortunately, whitening does not work on crowns, second you cannot whiten teeth that have so called "bondings" or composites which are plastic fillings on your teeth. If you have your own teeth and you feel that they are slightly yellow, dingy or tired looking, and you would like to see an improvement in the brightness of your smile, give us a call and see if Take home Whitening is for you.

When should my child come in for a visit?
At Ritter & Ramsey, we believe a child's first visit to the dentist should be enjoyable and positive. The more you and your child know about the first visit, the better you will feel. Children are not born with a fear of the dentist, but they can fear the unknown. And that's precisely why we makes a practice of using pleasant, non-frightening, simple words to describe your child's first dental visit and treatment. We want you to feel at ease from the moment your family arrives at our office.
According to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD), children should visit us by their first birthday. It is important that your child's newly-erupted teeth (erupting at 6-12 months of age) receive proper dental care and benefit from proper oral hygiene habits right from the beginning. For more information on the advantages of pediatric dentistry at Ritter & Ramsey, please give us a call today to schedule an appointment.

Cosmetic Dental Treatment with Veneers at Ritter & Ramsey, a Patient Testimonial
We received a wonderful letter from a patient who came to us to replace her veneers. Veneers are one of the many cosmetic dentistry options we offer here at Ritter & Ramsey, call us today to start your own smile makeover!
Dear Dr. Ritter,
I now have my new veneers for about 3 weeks and I am thrilled by the results. As you remember, I was a very reluctant patient, to say the least! I had a set of veneers put on by my childhood dentist nineteen years ago. The concern was that it was only a matter of time before they began to fall off or that decay would set in. I knew in my heart that I had to “bite the bullet”. I was terrified to go through the removal process which I knew would be quite tedious. After a few consultation meetings with you and your staff, I finally felt brave enough to go for it.
I was greeted in the morning by Chrissy and Fallon who assured me they’d take good care of me, offering blankets, comforting words and a sedative! After a few minutes, my nerves were a lot less jangled and you began the process of removal. I was quite comfortable the entire time and I think it went rather smoothly. Approximately five hours later, I went home feeling a little sore but looking great with undetectable temporaries in my mouth. I know it was a big job for you and probably took quite a bit out of you, but you never showed it and made me feel perfectly safe the entire time. We’d all been together so long in that room, I feel like I’ve made some new and wonderful friends!
Three uneventful weeks later, my veneers had arrived. I was excited to say the least and it was heartwarming that you and Chrissy and Fallon were just as excited for me. The placement procedure was relatively quick and painless. I haven’t stopped smiling since! I have been back a few more times for smoothing and such but I have not wanted you to shape my teeth yet. I still can’t get over how perfect they are! It’s nice to know that I can come back to you at any time if I want anything rounded to “make them mine”. I still don’t know if that is going to be necessary!
The bottom line is you and your entire office staff is among the kindest, most professional group of people I’ve ever dealt with. I can’t thank you enough for making this nerve wracking journey a smooth and even fun one! Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Sincerely,
Traci F.
